10. Grand Rounds

a) Required both years

b) The focus in this series is on clinical presentations by the various services, with both faculty and residents on that service presenting. Invited speakers also participate, both from other departments in the College of Medicine as well as national speakers.

c) Presentation on timely subjects by visiting teachers. Residents present cases or a review.

d) All trainees and faculty members of the department are expected to attend. Graduates, medical nursing students and faculty in nursing and other departments also participate.

    e) 1½ hours twice each month for both years.

f) Goal and objectives: The resident will gain additional knowledge in special areas of child and adolescent psychiatry, as presented in the grand rounds

Knowledge:

  1. Biologic correlates of childhood psychiatric disorders (i.e., genetics, neuroimaging, neuroendocrine)
  2. Developmental disorders and relationship to child psychiatric disorders
  3. Advanced clinical psychopathology and psychopharmacology

Skills: N/A

  1. Attitudes:
  2. Awareness of gaps in his/her knowledge base and desire to address these gaps
  3. Collegial behavior toward faculty, staff and peers
