Inpatient Psychiatric Service (Unit 82)
Our Gero-Psych Service is geared toward the evaluation and treatment of psychiatric issues common to the geriatric population, such as dementia or other cognitive disorders, depression, psychiatric disorders due to a general medical condition, or substance induced psychiatric disorder. There is frequent consultation with area nursing homes. There is much interaction between the psychiatry services and other medical services in order to best meet the needs of our geriatric-psychiatry and medical-psychiatry patients. Treatment modalities include psychopharmacology, individual psychotherapy including brief, crisis intervention, and cognitive-behavioral, family and group therapy. Every patient on Unit 82 is seen daily by a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team who contributes to the care of that patient. This includes attending and resident physicians, psychologists, occupational therapy staff, social workers, and a case manager.
