Scott A. Teitelbaum, M.D., F.A.A.P., A.S.A.M. Associate Professor
Originally from Staten Island, New York, Dr. Teitelbaum received his undergraduate degree in Psychology at Lehigh University. He attended medical school at Rochester University. Completing his residency in Pediatrics at University of Connecticut, Dr. Teitelbaum served in private practice for ten years at Teitelbaum & Katz Pediatrics in Middletown, Connecticut after which he completed his Postdoctoral Fellowship in Addiction Medicine under the mentorship of Dr. Mark Gold and Dr. Kenneth Thompson at the University of Florida. Additionally, Dr. Teitelbaum completed a fellowship in Child Psychiatry at the University of Florida. Joining the Faculty in 2002, Dr. Teitelbaum serves as the Medical Director for the Florida Recovery Center, Director of Adolescent Recovery Services and Clinical Associate Professor for the Department of Psychiatry as well as the Department of Pediatrics. Additionally, he currently serves as the Clinical Chief of the Addiction Medicine Division within the Department of Psychiatry. His expertise in Addiction Medicine goes beyond chemical dependence and includes an intensive, in depth knowledge of compulsive gambling. He has been involved in the treatment and evaluation of compulsive gamblers on a statewide level. Dr. Teitelbaum currently serves as an Expert Panelist and Speaker for The National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign which is sponsored by The White House, Office of National Drug Control Policy. In addition to being board certified as a Pediatrician, Dr. Teitelbaum is certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine and is a certified medical review officer. Clinical InterestsDr. Teitelbaum is the Medical Director of Addiction Services at the Florida Recovery Center and serves as the Clinical Division Chief for Addiction Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry. He was originally trained in Pediatrics at the Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford. After engaging in private practice for over ten years, Dr. Teitelbaum went on to do further training in Addiction Medicine and child psychiatry until eventually taking a position at the University of Florida of both Director of Addiction Services and Director of Adolescent Addiction. In addition, Dr. Teitelbaum is the Medical Director of the Florida Recovery Center/Partial Hospitalization Program, which represents an intensive level of treatment for patients living in off-campus housing, while attending daily treatment at Shands at Vista and the Springhill Professional Center. Due to his expertise in Adolescent Addiction Medicine, Dr. Teitelbaum does numerous evaluations and treatment of adolescents with drug related issues. Educational Interests and AccomplishmentsDr. Teitelbaum is involved in the daily teaching of both third and fourth year medical students from the University of Florida, School of Medicine. The students round with him on a daily basis and receive clinical teaching as well as the fundamental education of Addition Medicine. In addition, Dr. Teitelbaum provides lectures to medical students from the various medical disciplines at the University of Florida. His lectures include general addiction principles as well as the treatment of impaired professional. His teaching has been highly regarded by the numerous students who have rotated through his service. In addition to his local teaching, Dr. Teitelbaum has been invited to speak at numerous facilities around the country. Dr. Teitelbaum has been the Key Note Speaker at the Delaware Annual Conference on Addiction and Prevention as well as presenting Ground Rounds at numerous hospitals in various states, including Creighton Children's Hospital and the Children's Medical Center of Connecticut. In addition, Dr. Teitelbaum has been consulted by the White House, Executive Office of the President to help with the media campaign on the use of marijuana by children and adolescents. In addition to the White House, Dr. Teitelbaum serves as a consultant for the New York Yankees as well as numerous media outlets such as 24-Hours and The O'Reilly Factor. Leadership And ServiceDr. Teitelbaum has been involved in a leadership role locally in the treatment and intervention of many local professionals. He has volunteered his time to help with interventions of professional with addictive disorders. Dr. Teitelbaum has also been involved in the identification and treatment of medical students and residents with addiction related problems. He also volunteers his time for educational lectures at numerous local public schools, providing school age children with the awareness of the dangers of drug use. Additionally, Dr. Teitelbaum serves an active board member of the Florida Society of Addiction Medicine as well as Florida Medical Professionals Group (FMPG).
